Celebrating Black History month: Michelle Obama

Born January 17, 1964, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama was one of two children of a pump operator with MS and his wife.  Their home was filled with “love, laughter and life lessons”[ii].  She went to public schools in Chicago and then studied sociology and African-American studies at Princeton. Then after graduating Harvard Law School she worked at a firm where she met Barack Obama.

Ms. Obama wears many hats. She is a writer, lawyer and wife of the 44th President, President Barack Obama. She is a role model for girls and for women globally through her work and commitment to:

  • Healthy kids and healthy families through Let’s Move
  • Service members and their families through Joining Forces
  • Education through Reach Higher
